Reigning Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second consecutive season.
The 27-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also claimed victory at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking extended hiatus following the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and rising to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
