A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Holidays

The winter break provide a wealth of activities much better than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing deep breathing to avoid yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to enjoy all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting announcements surfaced over the festive period, and should you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. The show will be back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—such a distant date they could have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now fans are overjoyed about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio renowned for the artistic merit of its productions, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
